Since only 2022, we’ve granted more than $850,000 to the community. We are excited to announce that grant application will reopen in August 2025.

Policies

A community forum will be held at least once a year to share updates, announce changes, and provide all relevant information about The Black Fund’s grants, processes and to hear the community.

Members of the Board of Directors, Steering Committee, Founders, and Chairs of The Black Fund are ineligible to apply for grants while they are actively involved with or providing support to The Black Fund of Central Texas. Immediate family members are also ineligible to apply. [immediate family is defined as the spouse/partner, siblings and children of the leadership team].
Founders, Campaign Chairs and the Executive Director are not permitted to participate in the grant scoring process. However, they may raise concerns about inequities or challenges to the Grants Chairs for consideration. Additionally, they are welcome to participate in the Committee Choice Awards Accelerator picking process to address any gaps that may emerge during the grant scoring cycle.
Fiscally sponsored projects fall under our Emerging Organizations category and are eligible to receive funding between $3,000 and $5,000 upon successful completion of the capacity-building accelerator.
Nonprofit organizations must operate in one the 6-county Central Texas region: Travis, Bastrop, Burnet, Caldwell, Hays, and Williamson counties.
Organizations must be tax-exempt under Sections 501(c)(3) or 170(b)(1)(A)(vi) of the Internal Revenue Code, a fiscally sponsored project or be a government unit.
Fiscally Sponsored Projects are considered as Emerging Organizations are eligible for $3,000 – $5,000 funding upon completing the capacity-building accelerator.
Awardees (except Committee Choice Awards Accelerator participants) are ineligible for funding in the year immediately following their award.
Organizations that engage in non-lobbying advocacy (e.g., public education, community organizing, policy research) are eligible.
Eligible programs should focus on initiatives that align with The Black Fund of Central Texas’ strategies and welcome participation from all individuals, regardless of background or beliefs.
Endowment funds, scholarships, religious activities, fundraising events, umbrella funding organizations, individuals, or organizations with discriminatory practices are ineligible to apply.
Board members, Steering Committee, Founders, and Chairs of The Black Fund, along with their immediate family, are ineligible to apply while actively involved with The Black Fund of Central Texas are ineligible to apply.
Organizations and/or individuals that have engaged in harmful actions toward The Black Fund and The Black Fund of Central Texas —including but not limited to: slander, defamation, incitement of violence, or the spread of false information on social media (distinctly different from constructive criticism, which is welcomed)—are ineligible to apply. Any applications submitted under such circumstances will be automatically disqualified.
In an effort to bring in new grant awardees, all 2023 grant awardees, with the exception of Committee Choice Awards participants, are ineligible to apply for funding in our next grant cycle.
Moving forward all grant awardees with the exception of Committee Choice Accelerator Awards participants are ineligible to apply for the year immediately following their grant award. Awardees may reapply in the grant cycle after their one-year award period has concluded.
